...but apparently it's a suspension device for the treatment of scoliosis in 1877.

Scoliosis runs in my family, but I dodged that particular bullet. Still, this looks like a more enjoyable treatment than the horrifyingly invasive metal-rods-inserted-into-the-spine job my aunt had to go through in the seventies.

More of the same gorgeous Victorian quackery over on [community profile] darkvictoria.

I really like this photo. Like the poster said, it's oddly beautiful, and it certainly has a hint of BDSM about it at first glance!

Though I'm slightly concerned about his other hand where/the way he's looking.

Nice stripy skirt.

Ha! I hadn't noticed his hand.

I'd love to be able to draw this. Did I tell you I bought a whacking great box of watercolour tubes, pencils, etc? I had an idea for a painting and I want to practice. Because I have no skill whatsoever beyond the odd googly-eyed Rosie.

No, you didn't tell me! That's very exciting- I did love that 'lil Rosie you drew. I shall pester you every so often to find out how you're doing. Hopefully it'll turn out to be a very artistic summer... I for one intend to use up all my old acrylics as I'm starting to have trouble opening the tubes!

I came up with the idea (here's the fun part) on the operating table just after they pumped me full of opiates. I've made two studies, but I need to get the hang of paint before I can continue. I really think acrylics will be more suitable than watercolour, but I have no experience of them. Can I poke you for advice?
